What Happens in a Private Mindfulness Session?

If you've been curious about mindfulness but aren't sure whether you're ready to commit to a full 8-week course, a private one-to-one session is a gentle and flexible way to begin. But what actually happens in one? Here's what to expect.

It starts with you

A private mindfulness session isn't a one-size-fits-all experience. Before diving in, your coach will take time to understand what's brought you to mindfulness — whether that's stress, anxiety, burnout, difficulty sleeping, or simply a sense that something needs to shift. This conversation shapes the session so that it feels relevant to your life, not generic.

What you'll explore

In a one-hour session with Emma, you'll cover what mindfulness actually is (and what it isn't), the science behind how stress affects the body and mind, and how mindfulness can help you respond more skillfully to life's challenges — whether those are external pressures, a persistent inner critic, difficult emotions, or physical tension you've been carrying around.

It's a conversation, guided by where you are right now.

The guided meditation

Every session includes a guided meditation practice. You'll need a quiet space where you won't be disturbed — ideally somewhere you can lie down comfortably. Emma will guide you through the practice, and afterwards there'll be space to reflect on what came up.

After the session, you'll receive a recording of the meditation to continue your practice at home. This is one of the most valuable parts — having something to return to between sessions makes a real difference to how quickly the practice takes root.

Important to know

Mindfulness isn't a quick fix, and a good private session won't pretend otherwise. It's an introduction to a way of living — one that takes gentle, consistent practice to develop. While mindfulness is not therapy, many people find it deeply therapeutic.

Sessions are conducted via Zoom, so you can join from anywhere in the world with a good internet connection. No special equipment, no prior experience, and no particular beliefs are required.

Is one session enough?

A single session can be genuinely valuable — it gives you a clear foundation, a practice to take away, and a much better sense of whether mindfulness is for you. Many people find it's the nudge they needed to commit to the full 8-week MBSR course. Others return for occasional sessions as a top-up or reset when life gets busy.

Either way, it's a low-commitment, high-value way to start.
